Fetal blood sampling and transfusion

PCI has extensive experience in managing pregnancies complicated by alloimmuzation. Although rare, alloimmunization (commonly known as Rh incompatibility) leads to severe fetal anemia, hydrops, and often fetal loss. Accurate diagnosis and timely intervention can be life-saving for an otherwise normal fetus. PCI has a dedicated team of physicians, nurse practitioner, physician assistant and advanced sonographers, who can be mobilized and set up fetal blood sampling and transfusion. The same set up can be used to treat fetal anemia due to acute Parvovirus infection in utero, which can also lead to the same condition, if untreated.

Fetal lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO) treatment

Fetal lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO) is defined as partial or complete obstruction of any portion of the urinary tract from the kidney to the urethra. It is another condition that can potentially benefit from fetal intervention. In selected fetuses, timely bladder shunt placement can avoid further damage to the kidneys and restore amniotic fluid volume for normal respiratory development.  PCI physicians and staff have extensive experience in this treatment.
